About the composer
Plamen Petrov
Plamen Petrov was born in Sofia in 1971. He began playing guitar at the age of 12 and graduated from the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia in 2000, specialising in pop and jazz guitar. Five years later, he also completed a master’s degree.
Alongside pop and jazz, Petrov also plays classical guitar. His musical interests cover a wide range of styles, although jazz has remained his main focus.
He has performed with numerous jazz and rock formations in Bulgaria and abroad, including projects in Hong Kong, Great Britain, Norway, the Netherlands and Estonia. He also took part in the Bulgarian production of the opera Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as the Jazz Time programme on Bulgarian National Television and Spontaneously After Midnight on Bulgarian National Radio.
Petrov has performed as a soloist and as a big-band guitarist in Great Britain and Italy. In 2001, he founded the Plamen Petrov Trio, with which he appeared at many festivals and club stages, including the International Jazz Festival in Bansko, as well as events in Rousse, Haskovo and other cities.
His discography includes three albums of original music: With the Moon Alone Together (2001), recorded in trio format; Tell Me About You (2014), created with Mihail Yosifov, Hristo Yotsov, Atanas Hadjiev and Boris Taslev; and See the World (2016), a collection of music for two guitars, which he performs in concert with Milena Valcheva. Since 2007, Petrov has worked as a teacher, and since 2011 he has taught at Rock School Sofia.
He is the author of more than 600 compositions in different styles, including works for classical and acoustic guitar in solo, duo, trio and quartet settings, as well as jazz pieces. His music and performances are also available on his YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/@PlamenPetrov.
