About the composer
Filippo Gragnani
Italian guitarist and composer Filippo Gragnani came from a family of respected luthiers and musicians. He received music lessons from an early age, mainly in sacred music, before devoting himself fully to the guitar as a virtuoso performer. By 1810, he had settled in Paris, where he became a friend and pupil of the famous guitarist Ferdinando Carulli. From 1807, his works were published in Paris, a city where guitarists were among the most admired musicians during the first half of the nineteenth century. After 1812, the details of his life become less clear, although he was probably still active in Paris before returning to Livorno, where he spent his final years.
